Acute Rupture of Hepatocellular Carcinoma in the HIV Era: a Rare Presentation

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) occurs in chronic liver disease, most often secondary to viral hepatitis. There is as increasing incidence of HCC in HIV patients independent of viral hepatitis, implicating HIV as a direct cause of underlying chronic liver disease. In this report, the first case of a ruptured HCC in an HIV positive patient with underlying chronic liver disease not due to hepatitis is presented.
