Despite advances of noninvasive modalities for IBD diagnosis and disease monitoring, endoscopic examination, particularly colonoscopy, remains essential for the diagnosis and surveillance or IBD. Furthermore, high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy for the purpose of detecting and managing dysplasia and for cancer screening remain the sole acceptable tools for most IBD patients. Recent surveillance guidelines make clear the positive impact of a high-quality colonoscopy using chromoendoscopy, including dye spray and virtual [1]. Less frequently addressed is the importance of good bowel preparation upon which the successful implementation of these guidelines depends. …
