A Granular Approach to a Patient with Diarrhea and Flushing

A 57-year-old male was initially evaluated for a 3-month history of diarrhea and flushing. His diarrhea was of small volume with a Bristol stool scale 6–7. He had 5–6 bowel movements daily, mostly diurnal with rare nocturnal events, associated with generalized abdominal cramping and nausea, usually occurring 5–10 min after food ingestion, and aggravated by exposure to heat or hot showers. His symptoms were associated with dizziness, nausea, and sense of flushing. The patient denied tenesmus, dyschezia, or hematochezia. Over the 3-month period, the frequency of diarrhea increased, accompanied by intensified abdominal cramps. …
