A persistent or severe cough can be distressing for both children and their caregivers. Most of the time, it is due to a preceding viral infection and resolves spontaneously, but it can also denote a serious underlying problem. A robust cough management algorithm serves as a roadmap for healthcare providers, aiding in the identification of underlying causes and the implementation of appropriate treatments.
