Takayasu arteritis (TAK) is a chronic inflammatory vasculitis of unknown origin affecting large vessels, predominantly the aorta and its main branches. The vessel inflammation consists of mononuclear cell infiltrations and granulomas, resulting in narrowing or aneurysmal formation of the affected vessels. TAK is characterized both by chronic systemic inflammation and local parietal vascular inflammation. 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) has been used to evaluate the activity of large vessel vasculitis including TAK. …
