Prevalence of restless legs syndrome among adult population in a Serbian district: a community-based study

Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a sleep-related movement disorder, characterized by an uncontrolled urge to move the legs while at rest (either sitting or lying down), particularly during the nighttime, with at least temporary relief obtained by movements such as walking. The urge to move is frequently, but not always associated with unpleasant deep sensations in the legs/limbs, that some patients find difficult to describe [1, 2]. Due to discomfort, pain, fatigue, inability to rest, sleep disturbances, and consequently, anxiety and depression, RLS is frequently associated with poor mental health and impaired quality of life, and therefore produces great economic burden on both individual and social levels [3]. …
