Abstract

Ameloblastoma is the most frequently encountered neoplasm derived from residual odontogenic epithelial components and is characterized by a benign but locally invasive behavior with a high tendency to recur. Unicystic ameloblastoma (UCA), a variant of ameloblastoma, is a single cystic cavity which shows ameloblastomatous differentiation in the lining. Unicystic ameloblastoma has been reported in the literature to be the most commonly occurring odontogenic tumor in the third decade of life. Unilocular ameloblastoma (UA) occurs in a younger age group with slightly more than 50 % of cases occurring in patients in the second decade of life. This article reports a case of UCA in a 12-year-old boy with excellent healing after enucleation.
