Abstract

Purpose

Fungal infections are common in clinical cytopathology practice. They may be identified in a wide variety of cytopathology samples. Diagnosis is challenging and awareness of their morphological features is important. The purpose of this review is to briefly outline the salient cytomorphological findings of fungal infections in the right clinical context to enable an accurate diagnosis.

Recent Findings

This review article will highlight the role of the well-known and the recently emerging fungal infections, their nomenclature and cellular reaction that is evident on cytopathology specimen. The differential diagnoses are discussed.

Summary

Accurate diagnosis of fungal infections of cytopathology specimen is important for their clinical management and successful outcome.
