Abstract

Primary cardiac tumors are rare when compared to secondary cardiac tumors. Presentation includes congestive heart failure from intracardiac obstruction, systemic embolization, constitutional symptoms, and arrhythmias. Their presentation mimics that of valvular heart disease and the type of presentation depends on the chamber involved and size of the lesion. Our patient presented with chest pain on exertion, breathlessness, giddiness and fatigability. Echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging showed an intramural mass in the right atrium. The mass was surgically resected and the patient’s postoperative course was uneventful. The histopathology diagnosis revealed cardiac hamartoma. Cardiac hamartomas of the right atrium are rare and only few such cases have been reported in the existing literature. We describe a rare case of cardiac hamartoma presented in the right atrium.
