An Extraordinary Case of Extranodal Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Presenting as Common Bile Duct Mass

There are many types of cancer that can occur within the gastrointestinal tract (GI) tract. Among them, cholangiocarcinoma is the most common tumor of extrahepatic bile duct that presents with obstructive jaundice [1, 2]. On the other hand, primary non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) of the bile duct is a distinctly rare phenomenon and to date, only a handful of cases have been documented in literature. The first case was reported by Nguyen in 1982 [2]. Lymphoma within the bile duct presents usually as a metastatic disease from a secondary source, and extranodal presentation of NHL most commonly occurs in the small intestine [1, 3]. The most common presentation of the disease is with symptoms of obstructive jaundice, but imaging and biopsy are often required for locating the mass and identifying the malignancy, respectively [4, 5].
