Letter to the Editor: Bariatric Surgery and Endoluminal Procedures: IFSO Worldwide Survey 2014

In the essential International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and metabolic disorders (IFSO) worldwide survey 2014, the authors present the total numbers of bariatric procedures collected through the responsible national societies [1]. Among the total numbers of surgical procedures performed in that year, the Mini-Gastric Bypass (MGB)/One-anastomosis Gastric Bypass (OAGB) stands in fourth place with allegedly 10,403 operations (1.8% of all procedures). The authors conclude from these numbers that, in comparison to the last IFSO survey in 2013, the numbers of MGB/OAGB are plateauing worldwide except for the Asia-Pacific region. The authors, however, also admit that the count may be higher as the USA/Canada has not provided any data on MGB/OAGB. …
