A giant epiglottic cyst

A 77-year-old Japanese man with no medical history complained of coffee flowback from the nose after drinking, 1 month prior to hospitalization. He had no dyspnea, dysphagia, odynophagia, or hoarseness. On admission, his vital signs were normal. Physical examination showed no swelling of the tonsils, thyroid, and lymph nodes, and no tenderness to palpation from moving the larynx side-to-side, which would suggest epiglottitis. Laboratory test results were normal. Cervical computed tomography imaging revealed a huge mass on the epiglottis (Fig. 1), and laryngeal endoscopy revealed a giant epiglottic cyst (Fig. 2). Direct laryngoscopy was performed, and the symptoms improved.
