Observation for newly diagnosed micro-papillary thyroid cancer: is now the time?

Following thyroid surgery for micro-papillary thyroid cancer (mPTC), the rate of disease-specific mortality is <1 %, of loco-regional recurrence is <5 %, and of distant recurrence is 1–2 % [1, 2], whatever the initial treatment. These excellent outcomes are likely related to the indolent nature of the disease rather than the effectiveness of treatment. …
