Malignant peritoneal cytology refers to the presence of tumor cells in the peritoneal cytologic washing sample obtained at the time of hysterectomy-based surgical staging for endometrial cancer treatment. Malignant peritoneal cytology implies that the tumor cells of endometrial cancer have spread beyond the site of anatomic tumor origin, the uterine corpus.
