Clinical implication of trend of pulmonary artery index following Fontan operation

The pulmonary artery index (PAI) is a classical parameter to represent an indexed pulmonary artery size [
1]. PAI has been referenced to consider the indication of Fontan operation. However, the clinical implication of its trend following Fontan operation and the factors associated with its trend remain uninvestigated. Kojima and colleagues demonstrated that PAI increased following Fontan operation in some patients [
2]. Its increase was associated with more favorable post-Fontan hemodynamics. The use of phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor might be associated with its increase. Several concerns should further improve their findings. …
