What clinical and health psychology tell to internists and emergency physicians about harm reduction, addiction and asthma?

Clinical and health psychology represents a resource in the emergency medicine. In the last decade many experiences have showed as the psychological competence can promote an efficacious management of different health requests and reduce the overcoming effect of the patients in the emergency services. Moreover, the specific urgency that characterizes the request of the patients and their relative in the emergency services suggests considering with great attention how they live this experience that can be characterized by a relevant emotional impact. This contextual aspect can be an opportunity to promote healthy behavioral changes. Every effort should be made to encourage people with asthma to quit or reduce their cigarettes or other substances abuse consumption. The emotional impact of the urgency in the emergency room can have an impact on the motivation of the patients in this process. …
