Orthostatic intolerance (OI) is defined by difficulty in maintaining upright posture because of symptoms related to an abnormal cardiovascular autonomic response to gravitational stress. OI is a common feature of several conditions with distinct pathogenic mechanisms: disorders like vasovagal syncope (VVS), postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS), and neurogenic orthostatic hypotension (NOH). OI can be a disabling condition when these disorders are persistent or follow a progressive course because orthostatic symptoms interfere with quality of life and the ability of patients to perform basic activities of daily living. In many cases, particularly those associated with neurodegenerative disorders, there is no curative treatment, and the main task of health care professionals is to identify, treat, and alleviate these symptoms, and to prevent medical complications derived from them. …
