Temporomandibular joint ankylosis (TMJA) is the formation of fibrous, bony, or fibro-osseous tissue between the glenoid fossa and the mandibular condyle. TMJA is characterized by limitation of jaw movements leading to inability to open mouth. It is associated with functional impairments with mastication, speech, breathing, swallowing, and nutrition.
