To the Editor—We read with great interest the article “Topical sucralfate decreases pain after hemorrhoidectomy and improves healing: a randomized, blinded, controlled study” by Gupta et al. that appeared in the February issue. Postoperative analgesia continues to be a challenging problem for both patients who have undergone hemorrhoidectomies and for the surgeons whose armamentarium is plentiful in marginally efficacious treatment options. With a minimal side effect profile and a straightforward chemical formulation, sucralfate, which has been available on the retail market for treatment of peptic ulcer disease, represents an attractive therapeutic option as outlined in this study. …
