Thyroid storm is a life-threatening medical emergency due to a state of severe hyperthyroidism. It complicates 1–2% of patients affected by hyperthyroidism with an overall mortality of 10–20%. Trauma, drugs, infections and hormonal stress may lead to a rapid onset of a thyroid crisis in patients with latent hyperthyroidism [1, 2]. …
