The prevalence of obesity has continued to increase worldwide over the last two decades [
1]. Presently, over 20% of the global population is overweight (BMI ≥ 25 kg/m
2), and 10% is considered clinically obese (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m
2) [
2]. This equates to approximately 1.5 billion individuals being overweight and 500 million being obese worldwide [
3]. These estimates are expected to continue to increase by 2030 to 2.16 billion overweight individuals and 1.12 obese individuals [
