2015 was a good year for the European Spine Journal. An increasing number of papers were submitted for publication from all parts of the world. This clearly indicates that European Spine Journal has maintained and improved its leading position among journals dedicated to the spine. But the most striking development in 2015 was the amazingly high contribution coming from China, as shown in the Editorial by C. Lamartina in the October issue [1]. Two interesting articles published in the August issue [2, 3] emanating from Mainland China discuss how much and why the number of articles published by Chinese authors in international orthopedic journals have increased markedly during the past 10 years. Interestingly, basic and clinical research articles in the field of spine have evolved even more dramatically during the same period of time. The European Spine Journal was the second journal, after Spine, to publish articles originating from China, Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. The number of papers coming from China, submitted and accepted in the 2015 volume of European Spine Journal, is higher than those of any other country. It is interesting to note that the European Spine Journal Chinese Section Editorial Board was created by Max Aebi in 2009. …
