The Competencies of a Cancer Educator: Redefining the Future

As the past President of the American Association for Cancer Education (AACE) last year, it was my great privilege to nominate a candidate for the 2014 Margaret Hay Edwards Achievement Medal, an award to honor sustained, outstanding contributions to cancer education, the highest distinction and the highest honor of the AACE. Margaret Hay Edwards was a pioneer and the award in her name, which has had 28 distinguished recipients since 1986, is to honor sustained, outstanding contributions to cancer education. For me, this nomination was simple, Dr. Pamela Anne Catton. Not only did she achieve sustained excellence and success in every aspect of cancer education but she also redefined what it means to be a cancer educator. Furthermore, Dr. Catton significantly contributed to the development of the next generation of educators in Canada and around the world. …
