This is a slim volume co-authored by three senior or former members of the Department of Radiology, University of Rochester, with contributions from three further members of the same Department. The authors have collected a series of diffusion-weighted images (DWI) in a range of conditions and present their combined experience in 15 highly illustrated chapters. There are three short introductory chapters on imaging principles, appearances in the normal brain and pitfalls and artefacts. Here the authors’ dilemma in balancing the need for explanatory technical detail and the risk of its overwhelming the clinician reader is most apparent. The authors have, most definitely, avoided the latter. The text is brief and, I suspect, oversimplified for most practicing neuroradiologists who want to resolve day-to-day imaging issues. This is particularly evident in the introductory technical chapters. …
