The potential for single-cell transcriptomics, the systematic study of the cellular RNA component transcribed by RNA polymerase II, to facilitate research on cellular heterogeneity, disease-specific biomarkers, and networks of expression was recently highlighted in the Journal of Translational Medicine by Zhu et al.
