The following comments are in response to a recent review of the article by Shaker and colleagues (Dysphagia 18:64–65, 2003) describing a clinical investigation of their head lift exercise for dysphagia therapy. The issues raised in this letter are not intended to criticize the excellent work done by this group in the development of the head lift exercise approach to dysphagia therapy. Rather, our comments are offered in an attempt to identify limitations in the Shaker et al. paper in the hope that readers of the review will be able to form a less biased opinion regarding the conclusions reached by Shaker et al. …
