This is to reply to the letter by Ciancio et al. [1]. We congratulate Delis et al. [2] for their extensive experience accumulated at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and Jackson Memorial Hospital regarding surgical management of retroperitoneal tumors. The University of Miami approach reflects our own experience in the management of extensive retroperitoneal tumors, and as described by Ciancio et al. [2, 3], the majority of these cases can be managed without cardiopulmonary bypass for type III–IV tumor thrombus. …
