Pancreas transplantation is an established treatment for type 1 diabetic patients. The outcome of pancreas transplantation has rapidly improved in association with improvements in the surgical procedure and a newly developed immunosuppressive regimen. The pancreas was the first extra-renal organ to be transplanted successfully from living donors, at the University of Minnesota in 1979 [
1]. A simultaneous pancreas and kidney transplantation from a living donor was first successfully performed for a diabetic patient with end-stage renal disease at the same institution in 1994 [
