Prevalence and characteristics of Kawasaki disease before and during the COVID-19 pandemic

Kawasaki disease (KD) is a febrile disease with unclear pathogenesis. Thus far, KD has been considered to be triggered, at least in part, by an infection [1]. In 2020, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) became a global pandemic and lifestyles changed drastically. Consequently, the prevalence of common infection has decreased significantly. This epidemiological change prompted us to postulate that major variations of common pediatric infections would affect the incidence of KD. …
