Percutaneous treatment of giant abdominal hydatid cysts

We read with great interest the recent article on percutaneous treatment of giant abdominal hydatid cysts by Men et al. [
8]. The authors used puncture, aspiration, and injection of hypertonic saline followed by catheterization and sclerosant therapy in 15 giant univesicular hydatid cysts (13 hepatic and 2 renal). The procedures were performed under sonographic and fluoroscopic guidance. All patients received systemic scolecidal and antihypersensitivity treatment. No recurrence was observed during followup ranging between 36 and 72 months. The results presented by the Turkish team are consistent with those of other recently published reports, showing that the use of percutaneous treatment is increasing. …
