The concept of allowing patients to perform their own INR as part of anticoagulation therapy is not new. Of various methodologies being developed to administer oral anticoagulation, patient self-testing (PST) has perhaps the greatest untapped potential. Numerous challenges in terms of economic, medical-legal, and quality issues have thus far prevented wide spread use of PST in the United States. Potential approaches to expanding the use of PST in this country must successfully address these factors. …
