This issue of Surgical Endoscopy contains a commissioned review article by Drs. Korolija, Wood-Dauphinée, and Pointner on Patient- reported outcomes (PROs), [1] which in essence reflect how surgical treatment, irrespective of the approach, can alter appreciably the quality of life of patients who seek treatment for relief of symptoms caused by specific disorders. Patients’ satisfaction with the treatment depends largely on relief or significant improvement in their symptoms, but it is also influenced by their experience and the quality of the entire process of treatment. …
