Osteotomies around the knee are not just space oddities

Osteotomies (OT) around the knee for osteoarthritis (OA) have regained popularity during the last decade. Many courses are now proposed all over Europe, to teach a knowledge which has been somehow gone lost with the widespread use of total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The opinion change for the treatment of choice for knee OA in younger patients, in favor of TKA, together with its “industrialization” and direct favorable (for whom!) economic aspects [
28] did override a more constraining and demanding joint preserving surgery, despite survival rates of high tibial osteotomies (HTO) as high as 92% and 71% at 10 and 15 years, respectively [
24]. And yet, OT are still competing. …
