Of patients with melanoma, 2–5% will develop a local recurrence and about 4% an in-transit metastasis (ITM). These patients have a grim prognosis, as they have a high risk of further (distant) metastases. In the past, only local treatment options were available. Local recurrences and ITMs are generally excised. If the disease progresses or if excision is not an option, a range of other local–regional treatment modalities are available including cryotherapy, electrocoagulation, intralesional or topical drug administration, electrochemotherapy, laser therapy, radiotherapy, isolated limb perfusion, and isolated limb infusion. …
