Sexual transmission of meningococcal strains may cause infection of the lower genital tract in women and homosexual men, resulting in anogenital carriage in addition to oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal carriage [1]. We report here the isolation of Neisseria meningitidis in pure culture from a heterosexual man with acute urethritis, first diagnosed presumptively as Neisseria gonorrhoeae but later confirmed as N. meningitidis serogroup C. …
