Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a complex autoimmune disease characterized by both focal and diffuse inflammatory demyelination, as well as neurodegeneration, that can occur in different regions of the brain and spinal cord [
1]. The diagnosis of MS is based on showing the dissemination of demyelinating lesions in space and time while excluding alternative conditions [
2]. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the most sensitive method for revealing the presence of these lesions and has played a central role in the work-up of patients with suspected MS since its formal inclusion in diagnostic criteria in 2001 [
