Depression is a recurrent and highly heterogeneous psychiatric disorder that impacts on social, emotional and cognitive functioning.[2,3] More specifically, major depressive disorder (MDD) is characterized by a mood change to sadness or irritability, and is accompanied by other changes such as sleep or appetite disturbances, with suicidality as one of the main complications.[24] The estimated prevalence of MDD is ≈2% in children and 4–8% in adolescents.[2] …
