Excerpt

An increasing number of individuals in the United States identify as transgender or non-binary (TGNB), defined as a person who’s gender is different from their sex assigned at birth or an individual who does not identify within the male/female gender dichotomy.1 The stigmatization of TGNB individuals has led to significant healthcare disparities in oncologic care.2, 3 There is a paucity of data surrounding oncologic risks, screening, and cancer care for persons on gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT), after gender-affirming procedures, or how the physiologic and psychosocial changes from gender-affirming therapies may alter response to cancer treatment.2, 3 Current research aims to elucidate the potential long-term effects of gender-affirming care, especially in the biological development of hormonally sensitive malignancies such as breast, prostate, and gynecological cancers.4, 5
