Excerpt

Representation of women in medicine has trailed behind that of men in active clinical practice and academic rank, and the disparity has been particularly pronounced in surgical fields.1 The American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBrS), founded in 1995 to represent the interests of surgeons managing breast diseases, hosts the largest annual breast surgery meeting in the United States. At its inception, women represented 15% of the members and 10% of the leadership positions in the ASBrS.2
