As the main treatment modality for breast cancer (BC), surgery may cause inevitably debilitating effects on the patients’ physical, psychological, and social function, especially the restricted function of the surgical side upper limb.1,2 Although many exercise or training programs have been used for breast cancer care following surgery, neither targeted progressive daily exercises of the surgical side fingers and shoulder since the first day after surgery nor considered health-related quality of life (HRQoL) as the outcome.3,4 Thus, the effects of a comprehensive and progressive upper limb exercise on surgical side upper limb function and HRQoL following surgery still lack sufficient supporting evidence. The purpose of the study was to examine the effects of progressive upper limb exercises and muscle relaxation training (PULE-MRT) on upper limb function and HRQoL following surgery in Chinese mainland women with breast cancer. …
