Upper-tract urothelial cancer (UTUC) is an uncommon tumor with a poor prognosis. However, UTUC is endemic in some regions of Belgium, the Balkans, Taiwan, and China.1 Recent guidelines and reviews suggest several prognostic factors for UTUC recurrences, but only a few of these factors show that renal function impairment caused by some particular renal diseases before UTUC may be associated with tumor recurrence.2 Whether renal disease is associated with a poor UTUC prognosis or not remains inconclusive. This study used the national registry and claimed database to explore the association of renal disease and UTUC prognosis. The authors hypothesized that renal disease plays some roles in the development of bladder recurrence in UTUC. …
