Hypophosphatemia may contribute directly to the development of obesity, hypertension and dyslipidemia. Hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, hyperlipidemia and hypertension, which are components of metabolic syndrome, are also recognized as strong risk factors for cardiovascular disease [1].
