A 51-year-old European in reduced general condition attended our clinic in October 2015 with a progressive ulcer (4 × 4 cm) on the tongue and ulceration in the corner of the mouth, spreading since half a year (Fig. 1). He reported pain and weight loss (− 5 kg). Only arterial hypertension was pre-existing. Remarkably, several parakeets lived in his household. History revealed travels to Northern Africa and multiple stays in India up to the year 2010. …
