Total 500 subjects with BMI > 25 and aged either 45 year and above or BMI > 25, with an additional risk factor were enrolled for the study. All diagnosed patients of diabetes were excluded from study. A well designed proforma included demographic information, history regarding first degree relative with diabetes, gestational diabetes, delivery of large baby and related investigations. Fasting blood glucose (FBG) ≥ 100 mg/dl but <126 mg/dl and/or OGTT level ≥140 mg/dl but <200 mg/dl was considered prediabetes. The collected data was analyzed on SPSS version 16.0. This study comprised of 500 subjects of which 306 (61.2%) were male and 194 (38.8%) female. The mean age of the cases were 49.42 ± 7.73 years. Prediabetes was found in 147/500(29.4%) cases of which 109 were female and 38 were male. A strong correlation was found between prediabetes and BMI, persons with h/o diabetes in first degree relative, h/o gestational diabetes, h/o delivery of high birth weight child, HDL <35 mg/dl. Considering the high frequency of prediabetes in the region, provision of vast educational program to prevent the disease is essential and as well screening for prediabetes using FBG and OGTT, especially for obese subjects and those with other risk factors of diabetes.
