Association between vitamin D and sperm parameters: Clinical evidence

Emerging evidence suggests a possible role for vitamin D in the regulation of testis function [1]. Molecular studies carried out in rats have shown the presence of vitamin D receptor (VDR) in testes [2]. In rodents, successful mating between a healthy female and a vitamin D deficient male was reduced by 45% compared with vitamin D-replete males [3]. Some clinical cross-sectional studies evaluating the association between vitamin D levels and sperm parameters found a link [49], even if other authors did not confirm this result [10]. …
