One hundred top-cited articles in endocrinology and metabolism: a bibliometric analysis

Last several decades have witnessed the rapid and significant growth in the field of endocrinology and metabolism. However, little work has been done to identify the great scientific output in this field. Citation analysis has been regarded as a useful method to evaluate the impact of articles in medical field. So we used this method to identify and further analyze the 100 most-cited articles in the field of endocrinology and metabolism. A total of 128 journals in endocrinology and metabolism field and 4 famous medical journals (NEJM, JAMA, BMJ, and Lancet) were searched to identify the top 100 cited articles in this field (Fig. 1).
