In the Republic of Ireland, there are six medical schools, three in Dublin and the others in Cork, Limerick, and Galway, regulated by the Medical Council. There is a further school in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and another due to open in Ulster University in 2019 regulated by the General Medical Council in London. Thus, medical education and the education of professions allied to medicine form a large part of higher education in Ireland. The Irish Journal of Medical Science was established in 1832 as the Dublin Journal of Medical and Chemical Science and became the Dublin Journal of Medical Science in 1836. It is the premier medical journal published on the island of Ireland. The current listed Impact Factor is 1.158. It is the flagship of the Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland and is co-published with Springer. The current Editorial Board is focused on improving both the impact factor and international reputation of the journal. Invited signed editorials will form a part of each print issue. …
