Stroke survivors often have permanent disfigurement, dysphonia, dysphagia, or sialhorrhea. Frequently, they are wheelchair bound or have gait deviations, and are limited or dependent on others for activities of daily living and bowel and bladder care. They may have cognitive impairment and/or inability to communicate or comprehend conversations.
