I am a genetic counselor and I have the privilege to represent the more than 3600 remarkable members of the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC) as President in 2018. Like the video you watched yesterday, I’m starting today with words from last year’s “Emerging Roles in Genetic Counseling” panel. My friend, and our incredible President, Mary Freivogel, issued a challenge to all of us during that panel. She asked us to move away from terms like “clinical” and “traditional” when describing our roles. She asked that we abandon qualifiers like “I was trained as a genetic counselor but…” …
