We read with great interest the article written by Chiang et al. [
1]. The authors reported that malnutrition was associated with worse outcomes after placement of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS). This included increased mortality in malnourished patients (
P < 0.001) compared to those who were not malnourished. On the contrary, obesity is a form of over nutrition, where one nutrient is in excess of all others [
2]. Obesity has been shown to be associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality [
3], including anesthesia-related complications [
